When we first established our foundation, our mission was to fund translational research to accelerate the development of cell-based therapeutics. It was a great mission but it was flawed because funding is not the problem it's HOW the funding is used. If we simply handed off a million dollars to an organization that never run a trial before, chances are the bulk of the funds would be used in figuring out how to run the trial rather than execute it.
